The DLF Local Writing Prize

Thanks to the support of Hall & Woodhouse the Dorchester Literary Festival is thrilled to announce that it will hold it's third annual DLF Local Writing Prize, to encourage and support local writers.

Over the past five years, the Dorchester Literary Festival has celebrated the town’s rich literary past by showcasing some of the most exciting writing of the present. Now, we’re looking to the future.

The DLF Local Writing Prize aims to continue Dorset’s literary tradition by investing in its homegrown talent. This is a fantastic opportunity for writers whose work has been published on a local level to gain national exposure, and notice from literary establishment figures.

We are looking for book length submissions of works of fiction, non-fiction, or short stories that have been published by a Local Independent Publisher or self-published, from any writer based in Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire, Devon and Cornwall or with a close connection to those counties.

Entries should be submitted by the 30th March 2020, written for adults, not children, and have been published and sold as printed copies, not just in a digital format, within three years prior to submission.

A judging panel, including professional writers and a leading literary agent, will then compile the shortlist to be announced at the end of May. We will then hold an event involving the shortlisted authors hosted by a leading writer in July 2019 announcing the winner, who will receive a prize of £1,000.

I thoroughly enjoyed all six events I attended and would have done many more if my time had allowed. Congratulations to all the people involved for a very well organised event. I am most certainly looking forward to next year's events calendar- the dates are already in my diary.

I did so enjoy being with you and doing my stuff. I hope to see you again, though I am so busy I don't seem to have time for writing much at present! I am
sure your festival will go from strength to strength….
